New System Boosts Staff Efficiency and Slashes Application Turnaround Time
A nonprofit, independent certification organization, the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) used an entirely paper-based certification process to certify its counselors for more than 30 years. To automate its certification application process, NBCC leaders wanted to transition to an online certification engine with a high level of transparency and applicant self-service. Additional goals included, increasing staff efficiencies, reducing application review times, enforcing the strict rules and ethics of the industry, and ensuring a fair and unbiased process.
When making the switch to an online certification process, NBCC chose industry-leading association management software Abila netFORUM Enterprise™. The new online certification engine is much more streamlined, bringing what was once a three-month certification process down to mere minutes for completion. The process has NBCC’s constituents and staff members pleased. In less than one year from project launch, more than 4,000 applicants had applied and paid online, resulting in efficiencies in the processing of cash receivables and application review. It’s estimated to have saved at least 1,280 hours of staff time in the first six months. And more than 10,000 counselors have renewed their certification online, reporting just under 300,000 hours of continuing education.
